Synchronicity does not admit causality in the analogy between terrestrial events and astrological constellations... What astrology can establish are the analogous events, but not that either series is the cause or the effect of the other. (For instance, the same constellation may at one time signify a catastrophe and at another time, in the same case, a cold in the head.) ... In any case, astrology occupies a unique and special position among the intuitive methods... I have observed many cases where a well-defined psychological phase, or an analogous event, was accompanied by a transit (particularly when Saturn and Uranus were affected). - Carl G. Jung

AstroCalligraphics™ began as a personal project in the late 1970s. By 1981, I was using the name as a brand on my chart wheel designs.

My combined interests in the study of consciousness, symbols, writing, occult philosophy, spiritual practice and medieval scribal methods come together here, almost 30 years later.

My background in calligraphy includes periods of study with the world's most reknowned calligraphers, Welsh master scribe Ieuan Rees and Prof. Hermann Zapf.  Two separate National Endowment for the Arts grants in the early 1980s enabled these great opportunities.

Here's a bit more from my formal bio:

Peter Fraterdeus is a National Endowment for the Arts grant recipient (1980 Crafts Apprenticeship, 1985 Design Projects), founder of Emptiness Design Studio (http://emptiness.design), calligrapher, type designer, letterpress printer and eternal student of whole systems and the nature of consciousness.
He has studied with renowned master type designer Prof Hermann Zapf (RIT 1985-86), Welsh master calligrapher and inscriptional designer Ieuan Rees (May-Sept 1981, etc) and Zen Calligrapher Kaz Tanahashi Sensei (2013-present), among others.
Developed "Make a Mindful Mark™” seminars, which incorporate the calligraphic mark, drawing and Zen exercises to develop perception, mindfulness and leadership with insightful decisive action.
Peter has taught book arts, letterpress, calligraphy, typography, information architecture, and web design internationally (SAIC-Chicago, CCCBA-Chicago, Colorado College–Colorado Springs, IUAV–Treviso, Berlin, Barcelona, etc)
After decades of formal study of western letterform traditions, including letter carving, type-design, and medieval manuscript techniques, he is now also incorporating East Asian traditions and Shodo (Zen Calligraphy) into his daily practice of calligraphy at his studio in Galena, Illnois.
